"...an effervescent affair, often as thrilling as a whirligig ride, though sometimes at twice the speed." -Geoff Wallis, FolkRoots
Energy, passion, respect, and fun. Four words that sum up the musical mission statement behind Mórga. The band combines an unashamedly vintage sound, harnessing the energy and drive of the great bands of the 1920s and 1970s, with a taste for unusual tunes- adding the combined abilities four of today's leading Irish traditional instrumentalists to create a unique, energy-packed sound.
A shared passion for old and lively traditional music drew the band together; it was formed in 2008 by Jonas Fromseier (Greek bouzouki / banjo), Danny Diamond (fiddle), Dominic Keogh (bodhrán and flute) and Barry Brady (accordion) and in 2009 Mórga released their self-titled debut album to critical acclaim. After taking a break between 2011 and late 2012 another musician with the same passion and mindset, David Munnelly, lit the spark under Jonas, Danny, and Dominic again, and brought his masterful, energetic accordion playing to add a new dimension to the band.
Mórga then recorded the album, For the Sake of Auld Decency, in 2013, "There is much to recommend about this album, but perhaps the most successful thing about it is how well it balances this 1920s feel with a forward thinking approach to rhythm and harmony. This is not a band with a pedantic sense of duty to an earlier time; rather, it plays within the vintage style and isn’t afraid to finds ways to make it modern." -Dan Neely, Irish Echo
