Legendary Irish vocal group Skara Brae was formed in the 1960s by Dáithí Sproule and Maighread, Tríona and Mícheál Ó Domhnaill. Members of the group have gone on to form some of the world's best-known and best-loved Irish bands, including the Bothy Band, Altan, Bowhand, Trian, Touchstone, Nightnoise, Relativity, Coolfin, and T with the Maggies.
Skara Brae’s self-titled album, released in 1971, has had a profound influence on the development of traditional Irish music. The group pioneered modern guitar and keyboard arrangements and the use of vocal harmonies with the rare repertoire of songs in Irish Gaelic from Donegal in northwest Ireland. While stewards of the Irish language song tradition passed down through generations, their music also reflected a range of modern influences, including the Beatles, Joni Mitchell and Pentangle.
Although Skara Brae stopped performing in 1972, their recording has continued to inspire successive waves of singers and musicians. Their reunions in 1997 and 2005 were met with rapturous acclaim, and a documentary on the band was aired on TG4, the Irish language television network, in 2005. This is the band’s first series of concerts sinceMícheál's tragic death in 2006, and their first-ever US tour.
Skara Brae (Dáithí Sproule, vocals and guitar, Tríona Ní Dhomhnaill, vocals and keyboards, and Maighread Ní Dhomhnaill, vocals) is presented by the Traditional Singers Club, with support from the Irish Music and Dance Association.
